RH: So Isaac how old are you now?
IB: I’m 21
RH: How old were you when you
started surfing and what beach did
you grow up surfing as a kid?
IB: I started surfing when I was 11
and I grew up surfing Dee Why Point
and Dee Why Beach breaks.
RH: So being a goofy footer was it
hard to grow up surfing Dee Why
Point on your backhand?
IB: I guess we just surf different
lines to the natural footers, I actually
prefer surfing on my backhand now
after growing up on The Point.
RH: It’s been a great winter this year hasn’t it, lots of clean swells. Apart from Dee Why Point, what other beaches in Sydney do you love to surf and why?
IB: I only usually surf at North Narrabeen, South Narrabeen and Whaley Wedge.
Whaley wedge and North Narrabeen seems to be a lot better than Dee Why in the summer, so we go up there a lot when there’s little north wind swells.
RH: I hear you have won the last for D.Y.S.F monthly boardriding competitions. I also hear you have beaten ex CT surfer Toby Martin in every final, I bet that is a good confidence booster for you as you head into your professional career?
IB: Yeah for sure, he is someone I grew up looking up to and now that I know I can beat him quite comfortably it’s a big confidence boost.
RH: Is Toby still talking to you?
IB: Yeah, he’s all good, but I don’t think he’s too happy about it. Haha
RH: So what are your plans for 2010 WQS? (World Qualifying Series for the ASP World Tour)
IB: Yeah that’s my goal for sure.
RH Well good luck with everything. I really like your backhand attack and you’re aggressive approach when you hit the lip, it’s unique and I think that you have the talent to do well.
